Headaches
As a headache or migraine sufferer, you'll know how disruptive and inconvenient a severe headache or migraine attack can be. Not only does it impact on you, but also your immediate family and friends. Accurate diagnosis is important to guide the correct treatment and management of headache disorders. Head pain can have many causes, not just a migraine. Correctly identifying the cause will lead to better treatment

Back & Neck Injury
Your physiotherapist will begin by conducting a comprehensive assessment of your spine and thoracic mobility. Through manual therapy and various treatment methods, they will assist you in restoring lost mobility, offer guidance on achieving proper postural alignment, and recommend therapeutic exercises to support your spine. Additionally, they will suggest appropriate stretches or "pause exercises" for safety and provide tips on correcting your posture while working at a computer. If your physiotherapist suspects an underlying medical issue contributing to your back and neck pain, they may refer you back to your family physician for further evaluation.

Sports Injuries
Many sports injuries are frequently addressed by physiotherapists, including muscle strains, ligament sprains, dislocations, and fractures. The physiotherapy treatments for your particular sports injury will differ. Your personal physiotherapist will involve you in deciding on the appropriate intervention.

Respiratory Conditions
Proper breathing technique is a major part of most physical therapies, and physical training in general. Because of this, most physical therapists will be experts in proper breathing techniques, and can be extremely helpful to people who are suffering from respiratory issues. Physiotherapists can be used to help people who have respiratory problems as a result of an underlying medical condition, or for someone who may be recovering from surgery or lung trauma.

Pre/Post-Op Therapy & Rehabilitation
Before undergoing surgery, the pre-operative stage ensures that you are well-informed about the procedure and your recovery afterward. This phase aims to reduce stress related to the surgery and promote a seamless recovery process. Pre-operative rehabilitation plays a crucial role in enhancing recovery post-surgery.

Arthritis or Degenerative Conditions
A plan to manage pain and discomfort. Arthritis may result in localized or widespread joint and muscle pain. While medications can alleviate discomfort, consulting a physiotherapist can introduce additional pain relief techniques that complement your medication regimen.

Stress Related Conditions
Physiotherapists with a special interest in stress management can offer many different types of relaxation therapy including guided imagery, progressive muscle relaxation, breathing techniques, thought stopping, stretching, massage and general fitness advice

Dry Needling Therapy
Dry needling is a technique physical therapists use for the treatment of pain and movement impairments. The technique uses a “dry” needle, one without medication or injection, inserted through the skin into areas of the muscle. Dry needling is not acupuncture, a practice based on traditional Chinese medicine and performed by acupuncturists. Dry needling is a part of modern Western medicine principles, and supported by research.

Chronic Pain
Chronic pain, lasting for weeks, months, or even years, often originates from a minor injury or illness but persists over time without improvement. When dealing with ongoing issues like chronic back pain, considering a physiotherapist's assistance might not initially come to mind. However, you may be pleasantly surprised by the ways in which physiotherapists can contribute to your recovery. Effective management involves interventions focused on rewiring the nervous system rather than solely addressing the initial injury, ultimately providing relief from chronic pain. Physiotherapists excel at evaluating how pain impacts your mobility and will work with you to find solutions to enhance your movement capabilities.

Jaw Dysfunction (TMJ)
Our therapists can develop a program for you that includes learning and practicing techniques for regaining normal jaw movement. The focus of physical therapy for temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) is relaxation, stretching, and releasing tight muscles and scar tissue. Physical therapy is an especially important part of recovery from TM joint surgery, as it helps minimize scar tissue formation and muscle tightness

Postural Aches & Pains
Sedentary and repetitive tasks can overload certain structures in our bodies which cause stiffness of the joints and tightness of muscles, especially in the spine. Poor posture can lead to a number of issues such as: neck pain back pain shoulder pain headaches repetitive strain injury

Orthopaedic Conditions
Orthopedic physical therapists diagnose, manage, and treat disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system as well as rehabilitate patients post orthopedic surgery. Physiotherapists are trained in the treatments. Joint mobilizations, strength training, hot/cold packs, and electrical stimulation are modalities often used to expedite recovery in the orthopedic setting. Those who have suffered injury or disease affecting the muscles, bones, ligaments, or tendons of the body will benefit from assessment by a physiotherapist.

Sinusitus
Sinusitus is an infection of the nasal sinuses and occurs when there is an undrained collection of fluid. These undrained fluids can build up causing pressure and pain. Sinusitis is now more commonly diagnosed as rhinosinusitis, as sinusitis usually occurs with an inflammation of the nose (rhinitis). Physiotheraphy is able to assist the drainage of the sinuses through various treatment techniques, including: Nebulisation Ultrasound therapy Manual massage and drainage Dry needling Tips on how to reduce your exposure to environmental factors, eg pollens, and poor posture

Lymphoedema
Swelling in an arm or leg caused by a lymphatic system blockage. The condition is caused by a blockage in the lymphatic system, part of the immune and circulatory systems. Lymphoedema is most commonly caused by lymph node removal or damage due to cancer treatment. The main symptom is swelling in an arm or leg that may be accompanied by pain or discomfort. Exercise, wrapping, massage and compression can help.

Muscle Imbalances
There are more than 600 individual skeletal muscles in the human body. They provide strength, stability, and dexterity as well as our ability to speak and swallow. These muscles are designed to work together, but our modern lifestyle and our exercise routines often cause us to strengthen some muscles while leaving others to become weak. If this weakness continues over decades, the pathways that allow your mind to control your muscles may also weaken, and they will have to be strengthened during your therapy

Home Visits
We can bring our physiotherapy services to you. When it is not practical to come to our clinic, we can, by arrangement, travel to your home. This is most commonly an option when your injury limits your ability to get out of the house, with the goal that once you have recovered sufficiently, your care can then be continued at our practice. The area we can travel to for a home visit is restricted to a 5 km radius from practice. The fees for home visits are higher to cover travel time and costs. contact us for more info or to book an appointment for a home visit.

Concussion Management
Concussion is a traumatic brain injury that can cause lasting effects on brain tissue and change the chemical balance of the brain. Concussion may cause physical, cognitive, and behavioral symptoms and problems, both short-term and long-term. Physical therapists are movement experts. They improve quality of life through hands-on care, patient education, and prescribed movement.

MAP Classes

This approach aims to achieve pain-free functionality. Join our studio for private or weekly group classes.
